School classes wanted: Search for clues at the Altona Jewish Cemetery!
The Jewish cemetery on Königstraße in Altona is over 400 years old. German and Portuguese Jews driven into exile bear witness to Hamburg's rich Jewish history. To this day Jews from all over the world visit the remaining graves of Jewish scholars. Numerous stories, traditions and rituals can be discovered on the gravestones.
From February 18 to 20, school classes can visit and explore this place free of charge in the mornings. After a guided tour of the cemetery and an initial introduction, the young people can do their own research. There are many biographies, grave decorations and burial rituals to discover. The results of the research can be recorded in different ways: Posters and craft materials are available, photos can be printed out and stop motion films can be created. The contributions are published on the Geschichtomat project website and the associated social media channels.
The pupils will be supported by the Geschichtomat team (Institute for the History of German Jews and jaf - Verein für medienpädagogische Praxis e.V.).
An event as part of the Days of Exile, an initiative of the Körber Foundation. Organized in cooperation with the Stiftung Denkmalpflege.
