Project Week at Stadtteilschule Rissen
Geschichtomat visited the Rissen district school for the first time from 5 to 9 May. 25 pupils from a year 12 class researched their Jewish neighbourhood and produced five films:
- Nearby Wedel played a role in the first film. A satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp was located there in 1944. The group researched the history of this place.
- Elsa Struchholz also lived in Wedel: a Jewish woman who was forced into forced labour and later deported. She survived the Holocaust and returned to Wedel. However, she was not welcomed with open arms.
- The biographies of the Rosenbaum couple, who did not survive the Holocaust, play a role in the video of the third group. Walter and Frieda Rosenbaum worked in Blankenese at Wilhelminenhöhe, a Hachshara centre. They were deported from there and murdered. Holger Artus researched their biography and supported the young people in their research.
- What exactly is Hachshara? And there were various hachshara sites in Blankenese and Rissen in particular. In their video, the students in group four explain the term and look at the diary of a young woman who lived in the hachshara centre in Rissen.
- The last group focussed on the association for researching the history of the Jews in Blankenese. Prof Friedemann Hellwig, former Vosritzender, gave an interview about the founding of the association, its tasks and work.
We would like to thank all interview partners for their support and hope you enjoy watching the videos!
