Project Week at Stadtteilschule Blankenese

5 new Videos

A 10th grade class from STS Blankenese participated for the first time in mid-June. The young people there researched their Jewish neighborhood and created five videos:

  1. Blankenese is home to the Elsa Brandström House and the Warburg family estate. After 1945, Jewish orphans who had been liberated from the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp found a home there. Some of these "children of Blankenese" revisited their old home in the early 2000s. Prof. Friedemann Hellwig reports on the encounter.
  2. These children were prepared in Blankenese for their departure to Palestine. I.e. they learned handicraft and agricultural skills. The historian Dr. Björn Siegel told the young people about the history of the Blankenese Kibbutz Zerubavel.
  3. Blankenese is also known for its artists. Two groups dealt with them at once. The first group visited the Dehmelhaus to learn more about Ida Dehmel. Dr. Carolin Vogel provided assistance.
  4. The second group dealt with Alma del Banco. Her story as well as her work were recorded in another video.
  5. In Blankenese, Erik Blumenfeld Square commemorates the former CDU member of parliament. The last group dealt with his biography.
