Immediately after the summer holidays, Geschichtomat visited a 9^th grade class at the Stadtteilschule Am Hafen in Hamburg’s Neustadt. The students explored the rich and varied Jewish history of their neighborhood and produced five videos:

• The Israelite Hospital used to be located in St Pauli. The building still stands today. Andreas Kowalski, a guide specializing in Jewish history, showed a group around the site and recounted its history.
• Right next to the school lie the ruins of the former Poolstraße synagogue. The historian Hendrik Althoff assisted the students with their research and told them about the history of this site.
• There were once numerous synagogues in Neustadt. Some of them were designed by the architect Albrecht Rosengarten. He also designed synagogues and other buildings elsewhere. Only a few have survived to this day, such as the Schröderstift in Rotherbaum. 
• Not far from the school lies the Israelitische Töchterschule Memorial and Educational Centre. A group of students met with the director, Dr Anna von Villiez, who told them about the history of the school and, in particular, about the former student Ruth Dräger. 
• The Neustadt looks back on a long and varied Jewish history. This, along with the history of the so-called ‘Judenbörse’, was the focus of one group’s research.
