Project Week at Ilse-Löwenstein-Schule

5 new Videos

In mid-October, a Grade12 class from the Ilse Löwenstein Schule in Barmbek took part in the project. The 25 students produced five exciting videos:

  • Of course, the name of their school had to be included: Ilse Löwenstein. Who was this girl and why was the school named after her? The students tried to find answers to these questions.
  • Not far from the school is the University of Fine Arts (HfbK) on Lerchenfeld. There, a stumbling stone commemorates Prof. Friedrich Adler. One group looked into his biography. They were supported by Marlene Kirsten, archivist at the HfbK.
  • Last year, Kraepelinweg was renamed Nicolaus-Heinrich-Julius-Weg, effectively reverting to its original name. The students investigated this renaming and also asked themselves who Kraepelin and Julius were.
  • In Hohenfelde, there were a number of Jewish residential foundations in the 18th and 19th centuries, e.g. founded by Hartwig Hesse. One group researched their history and Jewish welfare in general.
  • The Ballin Foundation is based in Barmbek. It was founded by the American opera singer Eugenie Pappenheim. But why did an American opera singer establish a foundation in Hamburg, and who was she? The last group investigated this question.

We would like to thank all of our interview partners for their support and hope you enjoy watching the videos!
