Over the past three months, the Geschichtomat project has been visiting schools in Hamburg with a variety of formats. Things took a “classic” turn at the Stadtteilschule Rissen. During a five-day project week, a 12th-grade class researched the Jewish history of Wedel and Blankenese. In April, the project visited the Fritz-Schumacher-Schule in Langenhorn for the first time. Students in grades 7–11 spent two project days exploring the topic of Stolpersteine. This resulted in short stop-motion films that were published on the project website.

There were also individual project days and workshops, such as those held at the Brüder Grimm Schule and the Campus Kieler Straße Schule. Here, 4th and 5th-grade classes each participated in one-day workshops exploring the Jewish religion. At the BS02 Berufsschule, two workshops on the topic of antisemitism were also held. And last but not least, the Geschichtomat team supported the students in a 9th-grade class at the Stadtteilschule Wilhelmsburg with their research projects. For a year, the students have been exploring the topic of “Remembering in the Neighborhood,” examining biographies and planning to document them on film. Two Geschichtomat workshops were held to support this project.

In early May, an online professional development workshop for teachers was held in cooperation with the State Institute for Teacher Training and Quality Development in Schools. The goal was to showcase the diverse range of (online) resources on Hamburg’s Jewish history and to provide ideas on how to use them with students. Geschichtomat was also presented during the event.
