New publication and book launch: ‘Zeter+Mordio’ on 26 November 2024 at Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg

As part of the Geschichtomat project, the graphic novel crime thriller ‘Zeter und Mordio - Frei nach den Memoiren der Glückel von Hameln’ was created in collaboration with Hamburg comic artist Jens Cornils. Born Glikl bas Judah Leib in 1647, the Jewish merchant mentions the murders of two members of Hamburg's Jewish community in her memoirs. Based on this source and with the expert advice of historians, Jens Cornils takes (not only) young readers on a journey to 17th century Jewish Hamburg and Altona. ‘Zeter und Mordio’ is published by avant-verlag and can be ordered here .
In two interviews with NDR Kultur and avant-verlag, Jens Cornils provides insights into the genesis of the book.
And for all those who would like to get a live impression of the author and his comic:
On 26 November 2024 (6 pm, Hamburg State and University Library) , the director of the Institute for the History of German Jews, Dr Kim Wünschmann, will be in conversation with Jens Cornils about the book, its creation and the ‘historical challenges’. A reading - with pictures set to music! - will of course also take place. More information about the event can be found here.
