Max Brauer and the Synagogue Hohe Weide

The laying of the foundation stone in 1958

Description:

The laying of the foundation stone of the Jewish house of worship in Hohe Weide took place on November 9, 1958. Max Brauer, the city's Mayor at the time, gave a speech to mark the occasion. In this video we show why the construction of the first synagogue in Hamburg after the Second World War was so important. For this we interviewed Dr. Anna Menny from the Institute for the History of German Jews (IGdJ) and she was able to give us many answers.
