Julius Asch

In the memory of a jewish businessman

Julius Asch

Description:

In our video, we talk about Julius Asch, a successful Jewish businessman from Hamburg-Blankenese whose life was increasingly affected and destroyed by Nazi persecution.

Julius Asch was born on August 30, 1875, in Rawitsch (then part of Prussia, today in Poland). In 1899, he started working for the Hamburg company Charles Lavy & Co. After completing his business training, he became a partner of the company in 1914 and took on a leading position in 1916, which allowed him to found his own branch companies.

In our video, we especially focus on the role of Nazi bureaucracy and examine how rules, controls, and forced measures prevented Julius Asch from escaping Germany, even though he had prepared his escape early.
