Yiddish

An Interview with Inge Mandos at Salomo-Birnbaum-Library

Description:

We learned more about the Yiddish language. The Yiddish language is a Germanic language about a thousand years old. It is composed of Old High German variants in combination with Hebrew and Romance elements. There are about 4-5 million rather elderly people speaking Yiddish worldwide. Many German words originate from the Yiddish language, for example: "Ganove", "dufte" and "beschickert". Our group met with Inge Mandos in the Salomo-Birnbaum-Library and learned a lot more about the Yiddish library and the language.
