The fascinating History of this Place
We went to the Jewish Cemetery in Ohlsdorf for our short film. This short film is about the Grindel Cemetery. The Grindel Cemetery was originally located in Hamburg's Grindelviertel, which is in the Rotherbaum district. First, the Grindel Cemetery was only used as a cemetery for the poor. In 1909, the cemetery was fully occupied. In 1937 it was abolished due to government pressure and some graves could be moved to Ilandkoppel. The area of the former Gcemetery was built over with apartment buildings after the eviction. Since 1986, a bronze inscription plaque on a stone column commemorates the destroyed Grindel Cemetery.
